Suja Life, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUJA) has appointed Robert B. Engel and Zahir Ibrahim as independent directors to its board, effective October 16, 2026. The additions bring the total board size to nine members, seven of whom are independent, and place Engel on the company's Audit Committee.
The appointments are designed to add financial, accounting, and capital markets expertise to the board as the company continues to build its portfolio of better-for-you beverage brands. Suja Life, based in Oceanside, California, produces the Suja Organic, Vive Organic, and Slice Soda brands.
Robert B. Engel brings more than 45 years of experience in banking, public accounting, and public company board leadership. He previously served as President and CEO of CoBank, ACB, where he led the bank's domestic and global businesses and its merger with U.S. AgBank. Before joining CoBank, Engel spent 14 years at HSBC Bank USA, ultimately serving as Chief Banking Officer. He began his career in public accounting at Deloitte & Touche and KPMG and is a Certified Public Accountant. Since 2017, Engel has served as CEO and Managing Director of BLT Advisory Services, LLC. He is also an independent director of Allient, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALNT) and Chairman of the Board of Alaska Power & Telephone.
Zahir Ibrahim brings nearly 30 years of financial leadership experience at consumer companies. He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer of BARK, Inc. (NYSE: BARK). Prior to that role, Ibrahim was CFO and Chief Administrative Officer of Do Good Foods. He previously served as CFO of KIND, where he led the company through its sale to Mars in 2020. Before KIND, he was CFO of Annie's, Inc., leading the company through its sale to General Mills. Earlier in his career, Ibrahim served as Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer at Molson Coors Brewing Company (NYSE: TAP) after training as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.
Bob DeBorde, Chairman of the Board of Suja Life, stated that the new directors bring extensive financial and risk oversight experience. DeBorde noted that Engel's background includes deep knowledge of food and agribusiness as a former bank CEO, CPA, and public company director. He added that Ibrahim has served as CFO of leading natural and healthy consumer brands through periods of significant growth. The company said these perspectives will strengthen the board as it executes its growth strategy.
Suja Life operates a vertically integrated high-pressure processing and cold-pressed beverage facility. The facility processes approximately 1 million pounds of organic produce each week and moves products from farm to bottle in as few as eight days. The company's brands reach consumers through thousands of retail doors nationally.
The company's press release contains forward-looking statements subject to risks and uncertainties, including the ability of the newly appointed directors to contribute to the board and its committees as anticipated.
