Robinhood Markets, Inc. (HOOD) reported second-quarter earnings that exceeded estimates by 41%, prompting a surge in its earnings outlook and securing a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) rating. The performance underscores the firm's transition from a retail trading app to a diversified financial services entity.
The company's revenue growth and expanding portfolio have established it as a direct competitor to Fidelity Investments and Charles Schwab. Robinhood now operates 13 distinct business lines, each generating approximately $100 million or more in annualized revenue. This number is double the total from 2023. The portfolio includes options and crypto trading, a credit card unit, prediction markets to rival Polymarket, and Robinhood Legend, a browser-based desktop platform for active traders.
Recent strategic moves focus on artificial intelligence and market accessibility. On September 29, Robinhood unveiled Robinhood Agents, an agentic AI tool designed to analyze markets, build strategies, and trade on behalf of users around the clock. The company stated that Agent Apps will add institutional-grade data from third-party providers. Additionally, Robinhood announced plans to launch 24/7 weekend trading for eligible U.S. customers in equities and other assets.
Financial metrics reflect significant year-over-year growth. Total platform assets rose 32% to $369 billion in the second quarter, driven by net deposits and higher equity valuations. Net deposits grew at an annualized rate of 28%, while Average Revenue Per User increased 24% to $187. Total revenue climbed 32% year-over-year, and Gold Subscribers rose 39% to 4.8 million. GAAP earnings grew 48% in the quarter.
From 2022 to 2025, Robinhood tripled its revenue from $1.36 billion to $4.47 billion. The company shifted from a loss of $6.99 per share in 2022 to GAAP earnings of $2.06 per share last year. Analysts project EPS growth of over 4% in 2026 and 37% in fiscal 2027, reaching $2.94 per share. Revenue is forecast to grow 19% in 2026 and 29% in 2027 to reach $6.82 billion.
The stock has climbed approximately 210% since its 2021 IPO and surged roughly 1,090% over the last three years, outperforming the S&P 500 and many AI-focused peers. However, shares are down approximately 30% from their October 2025 peaks. The average Zacks price target implies 25% upside from the current price of roughly $109 per share. Technical indicators show a bullish golden cross completed at the end of July, with the 50-day moving average crossing above the 200-day.
Robinhood currently trades at a forward earnings multiple of 39.5 times, representing a 90% discount to its highs based on valuation metrics cited by Zacks Investment Research.
