Retired NYPD detective charged with murder in George Washington Bridge shooting

Victor Romero, a retired New York Police Department detective, has been charged with murder after authorities say he shot and killed a Con Edison worker on the George Washington Bridge on Tuesday evening. The suspect, 62, is from Haverstraw, while the victim, Koran Irvine, 46, was from Valley Cottage. Both men are residents of Rockland County.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting a male had been shot on the outbound upper level roadway of the bridge at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, investigators found Irvine unconscious and unresponsive in the driver's seat of his vehicle. He sustained a gunshot wound to the rear of his right shoulder. The impact caused the vehicle to crash into a median on the bridge. Irvine was transported to Englewood Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The New York Post reported that the incident appeared to be a road rage attack involving the two residents. Romero was driving a black Range Rover at the time of the shooting, according to the New York Daily News. Romero previously served as an NYPD detective and left the force 25 years ago.

Con Edison issued a statement expressing its grief over the loss of a member of its family in what it described as a senseless act of violence. The utility company extended its deepest condolences to Irvine's family, friends, and colleagues. According to his social media presence, Irvine had celebrated his 20th year working for Con Edison in September.

An online fundraiser established for Irvine's family described him as a man dedicated to his wife, Patricia, and their children, Lea and Hiro. The tribute noted that he worked hard every day to provide for his family and valued his relationships deeply. Fox News Digital has reached out to the NYPD and Con Edison for further comment.
