Tim Mynett, the political consultant husband of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), was spotted in their Washington, D.C. neighborhood this week, appearing calm amid reports that his wife has not been seen publicly since federal agents raided their shared residence on Monday. Mynett told Fox News Digital that he has "no concerns" about the outcome of the federal investigation into his wife's immigration paperwork.
The Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted the search as part of a criminal fraud investigation into Omar's immigration documents. During the raid, federal authorities reportedly seized Omar's cellphone and passport. The probe centers on allegations that Omar's birth year was adjusted from 1981 to 1982 in records at the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library with the help of her staff. If born in 1981, Omar would have been 18 years old when she gained citizenship through her father's naturalization, rather than 17, which could threaten the validity of her status as she would no longer have been a minor. The altered birthdate remained in public records during her tenure in the Minnesota House and for months into her service in Congress.
Mynett was photographed multiple times on Wednesday, including while walking the couple's Golden Labrador Retriever, Teddy, and taking out trash. When asked by reporters about rumors that Omar had fled the country, Mynett responded by criticizing the media presence outside their home. "You guys are annoying the hell out of all the neighbors around here, man," he told Fox News Digital. He reiterated his position that his wife arrived in the United States as a 12-year-old war refugee.
The federal scrutiny extends beyond immigration documents to Omar's financial disclosures. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced on Tuesday that her office is investigating the couple's reported net worth. In 2024 congressional filings, business interests associated with Mynett were valued between $6 million and $30 million. Omar's office later stated these figures were incorrect and amended the filing to list Mynett's equity interests in his winery and venture capital advisory firm at $0. The office explained that the original disclosure mistakenly reflected total business equity rather than Mynett's specific ownership share and failed to account for liabilities.
President Donald Trump amplified the scrutiny by posting on Truth Social on Tuesday, questioning why Omar reported a net worth of up to $30 million before amending it to $100,000. Trump suggested her accountant may have reported fraudulent money and asked where her assets in Washington, D.C., came from, noting that Mynett reportedly makes "almost nothing." At least two of Omar's relatives, including her sister Sahra Noor, were subpoenaed as part of the HSI investigation into her immigration paperwork. Officials clarified that the investigation into financial disclosures is separate from the immigration fraud probe.
