Robinhood prediction markets assign a 31% probability to Ethereum touching $3,500 before January 1, 2027. This figure, based on roughly 110,000 contracts as of September 14, positions the level as a key near-term test for the asset's broader price outlook.
Ethereum currently trades at $2,480, down approximately 1.0% over the past 24 hours but up 32% over the last 30 days, according to CoinGecko. To reach the $3,500 target, the token must first reclaim $3,124, a level roughly 25% above the current price, before gaining another 12%. ETH touched $2,663 on September 11 but failed to hold that level, indicating resistance in the first leg of the potential move.
The market's pricing suggests traders perceive less downside risk than upside potential. Robinhood's data shows only a 5% chance of Ethereum falling below $2,000 in September and an 8% probability of it dropping below $1,500 before the end of 2026. The same market gives a 38% chance of Ethereum reaching $2,750 in September. These contracts resolve based on whether the asset hits the specified price point at any time prior to the expiration date, rather than its final closing value.
Analyst forecasts diverge significantly from the market's middle-ground probability. Tom Lee projects Ethereum at $6,000 by December 2026, a target that depends on Bitcoin reaching $150,000, well above its current price of about $78,824. In contrast, Changelly's model places Ethereum's December 2026 average at $2,183, below its current price. CoinDCX offers more conservative near-term targets of $2,800 for September and $2,950 for October. The wide gap between these forecasts highlights the sensitivity of predictions to underlying assumptions about the broader crypto market.
The timing of Ethereum's next major protocol upgrade adds uncertainty to the outlook. The Glamsterdam upgrade has been pushed from June to the third quarter and now to the fourth quarter of 2026. The Sepolia testnet deployment is scheduled for October 6. For a sustained move toward $3,500, factors such as strong ETF inflows and stable or falling Fed rates would also need to align with Bitcoin staying above $90,000.
Institutional demand remains a notable support factor. BitMine holds 5.9 million ETH as of September 2026 after 65 consecutive weeks of buying. Its 5% supply target implies it could purchase another roughly 134,000 ETH. U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs received $697 million during the week of August 17 to 21 and an additional $197 million on September 11, according to SoSoValue. These inflows suggest continued demand for the asset despite a weaker summer.
