AMD has announced it is acquiring World Labs, an artificial intelligence research laboratory co-founded by Dr. Fei-Fei Li, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The company stated that the deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
World Labs launched in 2024 and reached a valuation of $1 billion within a few months. In 2025, the startup released its first commercial product, a world generation model named Marble. This tool allows users to create interactive 3D worlds from a text prompt.
Following the acquisition, Fei-Fei Li will assume the role of executive vice president and chief scientist at AMD, reporting directly to CEO Lisa Su. The World Labs team is expected to continue focusing on advancing AI model research. AMD described the move as a strategic expansion of its capabilities in the AI sector.
