Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer confronted defensive back Dijon Lee on the sideline following a penalty that ended the Crimson Tide's final chance to win against No. 2 Georgia. DeBoer was visibly irate and reportedly told Lee that the play "just cost us the d, game." The incident occurred with just over two minutes remaining in Saturday's contest, when Alabama had no timeouts left and was defending a third-and-2 situation on its own end of the field.

Lee committed a foul by grabbing a Georgia player by the jersey and striking him twice in the face with an open hand. The penalty granted the Bulldogs an automatic first down, allowing them to kneel out the remainder of the clock. Although Alabama initially appeared to have a slim possibility of a comeback, this specific infraction eliminated that opportunity entirely.

The decisive sequence began a few plays earlier, with just over three minutes left on the clock. Alabama was driving for a score when Georgia possibly committed defensive pass interference in the end zone, a call that was not made. On the subsequent play, quarterback Keelon Russell was sacked out of field goal range, removing any remaining chance for the Crimson Tide to tie the game at 20 points. Following the sack, Alabama punted and did not regain possession, cementing Georgia's victory.

This result marked Alabama's first loss of the season, while Georgia improved to a perfect 6-0 record. The game concluded with Georgia securing its first win over the Crimson Tide in this matchup, a result DeBoer attributed directly to Lee's individual error.
