Chipmaker AMD has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence startup World Labs in a transaction valued at $8.2 billion. The deal is scheduled to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval.
World Labs was founded in 2024 by computer vision scientist Fei-Fei Li, along with researchers Justin Johnson, Christoph Lassner, and Ben Mildenhall.
The company raised $230 million in funding, a portion of which came from AMD.
The startup focuses on developing new world models, which are AI systems designed to provide a useful, predictive simulation of the physical world.
