TCW Relative Value Mid Cap Fund disclosed a new position in Envista Holdings Corporation (NYSE: NVST) in its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. The investment management firm cited the dental products company's leaner operations and improving underlying demand as factors positioning the stock for multi-year growth.

In the letter, which details the fund's Q2 2026 performance and outlook, TCW noted that equities advanced during the period, with the S&P 500 reaching record highs despite volatility linked to a Federal Reserve leadership transition and Middle East tensions. The fund reported a 14.10% return for the quarter, outperforming the S&P 500 Index's 13.40%. S&P 500 earnings growth estimates increased from 18.8% to 23.1% during this period, supported by AI-related data center spending and resilient economic conditions.

Envista Holdings Corporation, headquartered in Brea, California, develops and manufactures dental implants, imaging systems, treatment software, and aligners. The company's portfolio includes more than 30 brands, such as Nobel Biocare, Ormco, Kerr, and DEXIS, which TCW states covers an estimated 90% of dentist office clinical needs. At the time of initiation in Q2 2026, NVST shares met two of five valuation factors: price-to-book and price-to-sales.

TCW identified two primary catalysts for the position: expansion into new markets and restructuring efforts. The firm highlighted Envista's push into the Japanese market with its Spark clear aligner system. Management believes Spark can win a high-single-digit share position comparable to Envista's global aligner market share.

Operationally, Envista is executing a value creation plan focused on growth, operations, and people. Initiatives include streamlining operations, reducing general and administrative costs, and pivoting toward higher-growth segments. These efforts are driven by the Envista Business System, described in the letter as a derivative of the Danaher Business System that emphasizes organizational alignment and continuous improvement.

TCW expects these changes to lead to meaningful improvements in margins, earnings, and cash flow over the next few years. The firm favors resilient, cash-generative businesses as it looks ahead, noting that elevated valuations make markets sensitive to policy and earnings.

According to Insider Monkey data, 33 hedge fund portfolios held Envista Holdings Corporation at the end of Q2 2026, down from 41 in the previous quarter. The stock closed at $23.47 on September 30, 2026, with a market capitalization of $3.77 billion. NVST had posted an 8.11% year-to-date gain at that time, trading within a 52-week range of $18.77 to $30.42.
