The University of Maryland has terminated head coach Mike Locksley, according to sources told by OutKick. The decision follows a five-game losing streak for the Terrapins, who previously won their first two games of the season against Hampton and UConn. The team's most recent loss came at home against Rutgers over the weekend.

Locksley's tenure with Maryland has been marked by fluctuating results. After an initial record of 39 wins and 54 losses, he guided the program to winning records in each season from 2021 through 2023. However, the team has gone 10-21 since that period. This marks the first head coaching dismissal of the current season, following seven firings during the previous year.

As part of the separation agreement, Maryland is obligated to pay Locksley $4.9 million within a 60-day window. Defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim will assume the role of interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Locksley originally joined Maryland on an interim basis in 2015 after three seasons elsewhere, returning to the program permanently in 2019. His coaching career began with New Mexico in 2009, where he recorded a 2-26 record over three seasons before serving as an assistant at various institutions including Towson State, Naval Academy Prep, Pacific, Army, Florida, and Illinois.
