The business process outsourcing sector's move toward AI-augmented delivery is gaining ground across Southeast Asia. Miami-based Lean Solutions Group announced on Aug. 24 the acquisition of SupportZebra, a deal that carries its Philippine workforce past 2,000 employees and extends its LeanTek technology platform into automotive, fintech and health care.
SupportZebra, founded in 2011 and headquartered in Cagayan de Oro, brings more than 1,300 employees in the Philippines and Mexico combined, along with a client base of more than 40 companies. The acquisition adds Cagayan de Oro to LSG's existing locations in Metro Manila and Cebu, completing a three-city footprint in the country. LSG said its Philippine headcount has grown more than 12-fold in two years, a rate it attributed to rising demand for outsourced business and technology services.
AI platform and vertical build-out
The acquisition sits squarely inside LSG's 2026 build-out of LeanTek, its AI technology platform. The company describes the approach as "expert-in-the-loop": employees monitor and direct AI-driven workflows rather than hand the work entirely to software. SupportZebra's customers will gain access to LeanTek AgentEdge, which augments human support teams with AI-driven automation, and to LeanTek Connect, which covers workforce management and account performance. SupportZebra already uses AI to route support tickets, suggest agent responses, surface customer data and handle repetitive tasks, so the technical overlap narrows the integration distance.
CEO Jack Freker said combining SupportZebra's service teams with LSG's global footprint and AI allows the company to extend its expert-in-the-loop model into markets it said few companies can serve at comparable scale.
Against the backdrop of those vertical targets, LSG is seeing the sharpest near-term expansion in automotive and fintech. A partnership with Carparts.com Philippines, integrated within the last six months, has already been extended through a new multiyear services agreement. That contract gives one concrete read-through of how LSG intends to deepen client relationships after onboarding: lock in the account, then layer more platform across it.
Cross-border demand and the outsourcing cycle
The broader cycle favoring the Philippines as a delivery hub is visible in the deal's own history. SupportZebra began in 2011 as FBC Solutions, a 15-seat call center in Cagayan de Oro. Over roughly 15 years it expanded into technical support, virtual assistance and back-office functions before being absorbed into LSG's platform. Adding Cagayan de Oro as a third market pulls a secondary city, long associated with English-speaking talent, into LSG's cross-border service model alongside Manila and Cebu.
The demand environment for human-plus-AI outsourcing has widened as clients weigh staffing costs against accountability over customer interactions. On balance, the acquisition gives LSG scale in the Philippines and a ready-made customer list in software, health care, insurance and fintech, sectors it had not previously served at depth. The open question is how quickly SupportZebra's clients migrate onto LeanTek and whether the vertical mix concentrates LSG's exposure to any single sector's capex cycle.
