Justin Murphy, a New Jersey attorney and former municipal official, said his unscripted debate performance against Sen. Cory Booker may help break a Republican Senate drought in the state that has lasted more than half a century. Murphy, a Navy veteran and former deputy mayor of Tabernacle in the Pine Barrens, gained attention for a blunt response regarding Iran War strategy, in which he stated that President Donald Trump should forcefully "finish it." Murphy told Fox News Digital that he does not use a speechwriter or teleprompter, aiming instead to present a sincere and authentic version of himself to voters. He noted that while he did not plan for the comment to become viral on social media, it reflected his genuine feelings on the issue.

The last Republican to represent New Jersey in the Senate was Clifford Case, who was last elected in 1972. Murphy observed that in his 60 years of life, he cannot recall a time when Iran’s support for terrorism or its internal actions were not featured in nightly news. He argued that the current president is breaking from past patterns of avoiding decisive action on the Strait of Hormuz and similar issues. Murphy positioned his campaign as offering a vision focused on long-term national and energy security, telling voters that a new generation of Americans is needed in Washington to represent working and middle-class New Jerseyans.

Addressing concerns about the impact of the Iran conflict on energy prices, Murphy acknowledged that gas prices in his area of Collingdale, Pennsylvania, were $4.20 per gallon as of Wednesday. He countered criticisms by comparing current conditions to the previous administration, citing higher gas prices, interest rates, and inflation during the tenure of former President Joe Biden. Murphy urged voters to support domestic energy production and policies that increase refining capacity to reduce exposure to global oil markets. He also criticized legislation introduced by Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., to dismantle the Department of Homeland Security, calling the proposal "madness and insanity."

Murphy also addressed election security in New Jersey, where hundreds of noncitizens have been found on voter rolls. He stated that election integrity is critical to the constitutional republic and noted that voter rolls in the state are contaminated. While emphasizing that he does not want an election system designed to benefit Republicans, he called for a fair and accurate process that reflects the will of voters. He described the state's current immigration enforcement posture as "utter insanity." Booker's campaign did not respond to a request for comment on the exchange.
