Hurricane Isaias has intensified to a Category 3 storm and is set to make landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast, forcing changes to seven college football games scheduled for Saturday. One matchup, Northeastern State at West Florida, has been canceled and is not expected to be made up. The storm's path has also triggered rescheduling for six other contests, with some games moved earlier to beat the weather and others pushed back.
West Florida, which plays its home games in Pensacola, opted to cancel its game against Northeastern State. The contest will not be rescheduled. In the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), Rice at East Carolina remains the only rescheduled game as of the report. Originally slated for a 4 p.m. ET start, that game was moved up by three hours.
Several other teams adjusted their start times to avoid the storm's arrival. Florida A&M at Alabama State was originally set for Saturday at noon but was moved up 24 hours. Similarly, Davidson at Presbyterian shifted from a 5:30 p.m. ET kickoff to noon. East Tennessee State at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., moved up two hours to start at noon ET, while South Carolina State at Charleston Southern also switched from an evening slot to a noon start.
Southern at Prairie View A&M, played just west of Houston, took a different approach by moving the game back one hour, from 3 p.m. ET to 4 p.m. ET. The hurricane is expected to turn toward the Carolinas after landfall, which influenced the scheduling decisions for teams in that region.
The storm is expected to make landfall near the Florida panhandle on Friday evening. If the highly touted Alabama-Georgia matchup is included, eight games were altered, but that specific game is not listed among the seven rescheduled or canceled contests. Instead, ESPN's "College GameDay" show covering that matchup is moving indoors.
