Ana Navarro stated on Tuesday that she would not meet with President Donald Trump, asserting that there is "no way in hell" she would break bread with him. The declaration occurred during a segment on the ABC daytime talk show "The View," where the panel discussed the president's recent dinner with comedian Bill Maher, sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, and musician Kid Rock at the White House.
Navarro justified her refusal by citing the actions of the current administration toward Latino communities. She described the administration as "hunting Latinos," alleging they are killing, chasing, racially profiling, and torturing members of that group. Navarro argued that a meeting would make "zero difference" to the administration's policies. She noted that Latino support for Trump has dropped by 50 points according to polls she cited, claiming his administration has doubled down on cruelty in response.
Co-hosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously worked for Trump, indicated they would accept an invitation to dine with the president. Haines joked that such a meeting would not be like the movie "Lady and the Tramp," but Navarro interrupted, stating the situation was not funny and that the president's actions toward Latinos were criminal. Navarro clarified that she has met with other Republican politicians, including Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, but suggested that accountability lies with voters in midterm elections rather than direct dialogue with the president.
Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg aligned with Navarro's position. Hostin referred to Trump as the "criminal-in-chief," arguing he would not listen and that his presidency was abhorrent and abnormal. She cited his treatment of Latinos, African Americans, and the LGBTQ+ community, as well as his self-enrichment, as reasons for her refusal to meet him. Goldberg stated she could not in good conscience reason with someone who has decided she is barely human, referencing years of racial profiling by the president.
Joy Behar offered a contrasting view in a New York Magazine interview published Friday, stating she would like to see the president appear on the show to "take the heat." Vice President JD Vance previously appeared on "The View" in June, where he debated issues including immigration with the co-hosts.
Kid Rock praised the dinner in a Friday interview with "Fox & Friends," describing the conversation as epic. He highlighted that two Democrats and two Republicans sat down to have tough conversations and laughs despite their different political leanings. Fox News Digital contacted ABC and the White House for comment but had not received a reply from either party at press time.
