WNBA rescinds Caitlin Clark technical foul, Fever star cleared for Liberty matchup

A season-long debate over officiating standards in women's professional basketball came into sharp focus Saturday when the WNBA overturned a technical foul that had briefly placed Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark one infraction short of a mandatory suspension.

The league confirmed the reversal to The Associated Press within hours of Indiana's 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky, clearing Clark to play in Tuesday's game against the New York Liberty.

The call, and the quick reversal During a third-quarter sequence, Clark was forced out of bounds and made contact with a referee in the process. Officials assessed a technical foul.

Had it held, that would have been her eighth technical of the season, and the eighth carries an automatic one-game suspension under WNBA rules.
