President Donald Trump has directed White House counsel to investigate allegations that former Kennedy Center leader Ric Grenell failed to deposit a multimillion-dollar donation from billionaire Turhan Mildon.
Former Trump attorney Alina Habba, Mildon's wife, told the president that the contribution never reached the center, according to four senior administration officials and three insiders.
Grenell denied the accusations as "absurd" and a "lie." Habba and Mildon declined to comment through a spokesperson.
White House sources stated that Habba told officials the contribution was valued at nearly $6 million, though she initially cited a figure of $17 million before correcting it to $5.6 million after learning specifics from her husband.
