WestJet Airlines flight attendants strike over wages and scheduling

Canada's airline sector registered fresh labor friction on Sunday as flight attendants at WestJet Airlines initiated a work stoppage.

The strike came after the failure to reach an agreement with the country's second-largest carrier over wages and scheduling, with no deal in place when the action began.

The dispute Wages and scheduling were the two points neither side could resolve. WestJet's flight attendants concluded that the carrier's terms were insufficient and moved to strike on Sunday.

The airline is Canada's second-largest carrier. That status means the disruption reaches across a significant share of the country's domestic and cross-border routes.
