Against a backdrop of deepening intra-party tension over U.S.

support for Israel, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's appearance at the National Press Club in Washington was upended almost immediately by a front-row heckler who branded him a "genocidal maniac." The protester cited the Center for Constitutional Rights' 2023 notice to congressional Democrats for "aiding and abetting" Israel before being escorted out.

Schumer pressed on and delivered his anti-corruption announcement, but the confrontation laid bare a division inside his own caucus that has been widening for months.
