US Navy awards RTX $22.9 billion Tomahawk contract as Pentagon accelerates munitions build

The defense capex cycle has been shifting gear for months, and Monday's announcement gave that shift a dollar figure.

Navy awarded Raytheon, an RTX business, a $22.9 billion contract to accelerate production of the Tomahawk cruise missile, as the Department of War moved to replenish long-range strike inventory against an active operations backdrop.

The contract is designed to give RTX the forward stability to expand its workforce, increase manufacturing output, and strengthen supply chains while speeding Tomahawk deliveries to U.S.

"This Tomahawk award increases our ability to equip the Joint Force, ensuring our Warfighters never face a fair fight," Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Duffey wrote in a statement attributed to the department.
