Figures covering the 2024 to 2025 tax year show roughly 17,600 UK residents reported a combined $1.9 billion in cryptocurrency gains, with 240 of those filers each declaring more than $1.4 million.

The concentration is where the story sits. A declared gain above $1.4 million places a taxpayer outside what most would call retail participation.

Those 240 represent a narrow but consequential slice of the 17,600 who reported gains at all. The aggregate total, $1.9 billion across that full cohort, implies wide variation below the top tier.
