The transatlantic regulatory divide between Washington and Brussels has widened sharply.
President Donald Trump declared that the European Union has imposed penalties totaling tens of billions of dollars on prominent American technology groups, citing $15 billion against Apple (AAPL), $3 billion against Meta, $2.5 billion against Amazon (AMZN), and an additional $1 billion against Google (GOOGL) that brings Google's cumulative EU fine total above $18 billion.
Trump characterized the actions as discriminatory and said his administration will open a Section 301 investigation, with tariffs on the EU to follow.
