Trump says rate decision not entirely Warsh's call, cites political Fed board

The rate environment heading into election season now carries a new variable.

In an interview with Punchbowl News, Donald Trump said the decision to hold off on hiking interest rates before the election rests only partially with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, describing the board around him as very political.

Trump added that he views Warsh as great and has no intention of criticizing him. A divided authority at the Fed Trump's framing is notable for what it withholds as much as for what it asserts.

He went out of his way to spare Warsh from criticism, calling him great. What he did claim is that Warsh does not hold the decision alone.
