Socialism 2026 panel calls diet industry a structure of racial control, citing BMI and Ozempic

At the Socialism 2026 conference in Chicago, the public debate over weight and health care arrived at one of its blunter formulations.

Harrison told an audience of more than two hundred that the diet industry, the body mass index, and GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic are instruments of racial governance, and that the system underpinning them amounts to what he called "body fascism." The four-day conference, organized by Haymarket Books and held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, brought together activists from the United States and internationally across more than a hundred discussions, workshops, and lectures.

Harrison appeared in a session titled "Health Fascism, Body Politics, and the Anti-State State" alongside podcast co-hosts Beatrice Adler-Bolton and Artie Vierkant.

Clips from the panel were later circulated on X by Stu Smith, an investigative analyst at the Manhattan Institute.
