Novo Nordisk's new chief bets on dealmaking to break free from weight-loss drug dependence

The pharmaceutical sector's reliance on a handful of blockbuster drug cycles has rarely been more visible than in the weight-loss treatment boom.

Novo Nordisk sits at the center of that boom, and its chief, Mike Doustdar, is now publicly treating that position as a risk.

He said the group will suffer failures as it tries to cut its dependence on Ozempic and the wider weight-loss portfolio, and that he is open to large deals to get there.

His framing was blunt: "Arrogance kills." A public admission of concentration risk Doustdar's language marks a departure from the measured confidence that tends to accompany sustained commercial success.
