Maxwell Frost and Baby Boomers clash over Gen Z housing costs, student debt, and the American dream

Against the backdrop of housing affordability at its worst in decades and student debt loads that have reshaped generational balance sheets, a debate this week made the American dream's economic mechanics unusually visible.

Maxwell Frost, the 29-year-old Florida Democrat, appeared on the Jubilee YouTube channel's "Surrounded" series to argue that Generation Z faces a structurally different cost environment than Baby Boomers inherited.

Frost, who drove for Uber to cover expenses while running for Congress, framed his complaint around upward mobility rather than survival.

"The American dream isn't survival, my friend," he said in the exchange, adding that the vast majority of young people feel they cannot set aside enough money for real mobility.
