Grindr has agreed to acquire PurposeMed Inc., the Canadian company behind Freddie, a leading telehealth provider of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
The acquisition includes Freddie's partnerships with affiliated clinical networks and marks the first major step in the company's strategy to build a broader digital platform for gay men.
Grindr describes the move as a catalyst for a healthcare business it believes can rival or exceed the size and profitability of its core social networking operations.
The company stated that combining Freddie's medical capabilities with Grindr's user base will allow it to bring testing, care, and medication delivery directly into the app.
