A congressional reckoning over pandemic-era public health governance reached a new threshold Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during the session, and Senator Rand Paul, who chairs the committee, said he plans to pursue civil contempt proceedings against him in response.

On Tuesday, Paul released what he described as Fauci's COVID-era diary, which he said contained Fauci's private assessments of COVID-19's origins and contradicted the official narrative Fauci had advanced during the pandemic.
