Eighteen individuals accused of participating in the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse have been transferred from Haiti to the United States to face federal charges.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the FBI and interagency partners executed the transfer on Sunday, describing it as part of an 18-month effort to bring high-value targets back to the United States for prosecution.
The suspects, who include operatives from Haiti and Colombia, arrived in Miami in shackles and under guard from FBI and Department of Homeland Security agents.
Federal prosecutors established jurisdiction for the case because the conspiracy was largely organized and financed in South Florida.
