Phishing applications that mimic legitimate crypto tools have turned app-store distribution into a recurring liability for the sector.
Against that backdrop, DefiLlama, the DeFi data aggregator, delayed its mobile launch after the company's founder identified counterfeit versions of the product already active on Apple's App Store.
The removal came after DefiLlama documented the fake app draining funds from a small crypto wallet. Real damage before the product was officially live.
For self-custody DeFi products, the attack surface at launch is the app store itself, because a convincing clone can capture the first wave of users before the legitimate build is even available for download.
