Protocol exploits have emerged as a recurring cost across the DeFi sector.
The Cronos blockchain halted operations after an exploit targeting Tectonic left an estimated $75 million in losses, and Crypto.com chief executive Kris Marszalek said the company's consumer app and exchange were unaffected by the Tectonic breach and kept running normally.
The boundary Marszalek drew is the operative read-through for the market. Cronos carries the Crypto.com brand, and a network-level pause prompts immediate questions about perimeter and liability.
His statement positioned the breach as contained within Tectonic and separate from Crypto.com's centralised exchange infrastructure.
