Insurance brokerage has been consolidating toward scale for years, and the reported deal now in progress would land at the larger end of that cycle.
Aon is nearing a roughly $17 billion acquisition of USI from private equity firm KKR, a figure that includes debt, according to the Wall Street Journal.
USI's brokerage business would move from KKR's ownership into Aon's if the deal closes. For KKR, it marks an exit from an insurance distribution asset.
For Aon, it adds a sizable brokerage operation in a sector where distribution assets have drawn sustained acquisition interest.
