A pattern of hard contact has settled over the WNBA's 2026 season, and Thursday night added another contested chapter.
Angel Reese made three of 13 shots for eight points during the Atlanta Dream's 104-69 victory over the Connecticut Sun, a difficult shooting night that included a second-quarter confrontation with Sun forward Aaliyah Edwards later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 foul.
Edwards brought her hand down across Reese's face and head as Reese attempted a layup while being double-teamed. Edwards fell to the floor behind Reese on the play. Reese turned, stood over Edwards, and shouted at her.
Moments later on the sideline, Reese gestured to indicate the contact had struck her in the neck area. Upon official review, the call was upgraded from a common foul to Flagrant 1.
