AI labs pivot to health care as the public backlash bill comes due

With public opposition to data centers hardening into moratoriums and threatened lawsuits across the United States, frontier AI laboratories are accelerating bets on health care and drug discovery.

Anthropic, preparing for a large initial public offering, has been pitching investors on a deeper push into biology and medicine, the Wall Street Journal reported this month.

Chief Executive Dario Amodei wrote on X that the company is moving quickly in biology and medicine "and we hope to have incredible results in the coming years and some early glimmers in the coming months." The sector-wide push extends well beyond Anthropic.
