The 2026 Major League Baseball postseason has produced results that contradict the league office's recent messaging regarding payroll disparity and fan hope.

As the league approaches the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement in December, the advancement of low-payroll teams to the league championship series complicates the argument for a salary cap.

The league, which is effectively run by the 30 team owners, launched an advertising campaign in June designed to support its proposed salary cap.

Official league accounts posted messages claiming that payroll disparities leave many fanbases without hope of winning a World Series.
